Info From Janne Stark's EncyclopediaThe album says 1997 on the cover but it wasn't released until 1998. In 1995 the band also recorded a demo entitled 'Do What You Wilt'. The keyboards was later handled by Annika Argerich (later in Stonelake). In 2002 Annika and Ritchie formed metal band Veritate, while Lindelöf and Gurmani was later in Benevolence, the latter as drummer. Hildesjö has also recorded an album with hard rockers From Behind. Official BiographyCult Disciples hails from the south of sweden. Formed in the late 80´s by Ritchie LaRoux ! The band had the first live performance at a local music café outside Malmoe, Sweden in the summer of 89 ! The Band Also Appeared at a local festival the same summer ! The Band split up shortly after theese 2 gigs. Ritchie & the Rhythm Guitar-player Ronny Fors (A.K.A."Spider") decided to keep on going ! But due to the fact that no members were to be found, the band was on ice... Ritchie started to write material for a "Guitar-Record". 3 years of hard work and practice, gave results, And his vision of a "Guitar- album" was shaped. In 92 however, he met up with a self-proclaimed drummer, and was asked to join a local cover band. He accepted, Even though the band sucked ! He saw a chance to meet other, more skilled musicians ! Also the rhythm guitar player of this band, "Freddie" hooked up with Ritchie. And the two began writing some songs together. But the material was far to heavy and "Metal" for the other two members of that band ! So, Shortly after the first (And Only !) gig with that band, Ritchie Left and said goodbye to playing soft Rock forever ! But, funny enough, all the other guys of that band became more, and more interested in what was going in Ritchie´s Cult Disciples. The drummer (hahahaha) & Demogorgon Bilé had a dance & Rock Cover band going, and Ritchie & Freddie hooked up with Bass-Player Magnus Person (A.K.A. Charles Dexter Ward) and all of a sudden everybody wanted to sing in the band ! First "Mr Drummer" Then Bilé Meanwhile Freddie and Drummer Boy joined a Kiss Wanna-Be Band ! and the whole thing became a circus ! But, In the end of the summer of 94, Ritchie met A Drummer who auditioned for the band, and was accepted ! (Ollie Damballa) The first Real Line-Up in 5 years were complete ! And In The spring of 95, The Band Recorded a Official Demo ! "DO WHAT THOU WILT" This demo was printed in limeted edition of 200 copies, and The Band made a video on the song "In the web"in the summer of 95. The video was filmed by Mattias, who later fits into the story ! In the summer of 95, Mr. Charles, announced his departure of the band. He could not find the time that was essential for the bands future plans ! So, in the bands best interest Charles left in hope that the band could find another bass-player, that could give the band full- Attention ! In august of 95 Mr Ollie did a remarkable announcement ! He was tired of drums, and Metal. So, He decided to pick up guitar-playing in a indie-Pop band instead !!! Irony strikes again ! In the late 95 Cult Disciples got their first record-deal. And this made the whole thing somewhat bizarre! Ritchie was alone with Bilé, who saw a chance of making his stairway to heaven ! Cult Disciples was included on an compilation CD Simply named Unsigned Swedish Artist 1. With the Track "Hiding In Twilight" from the demo !
In the spring of 96 A record-deal was made for the band for 1 full-lenght Album. Before this, Mattias joined the band as a Keyboard-player. He had never played Before, but He was there in our time of need ! So, Bilé tought Mattias some chords and the threesome began working on their Album material ! Ritchie wrote the main part of the album, with a helping hand from Bilé & Mattias who figured out some keyboard-runs, and the 3 rehearsed for 3 full months 6 hours a day 7 days a week to complete the material for the Album. In the end of june a drummer was recruted to the band (Mephistopheles) But he had no chance of learning the drums to 14 songs in 2 weeks,so The Band recorded the entire Album with Drum-Machine. The recordings took about 10 days and nights to complete.
A couple of weeks later a 2nd guitar player was recruted to Cult Disciples. ("Bonnie") The album was ment to be released in december, of 96 But The record company (T.C.B.-Agency) was in financial problems and the owner sold his "Band Stable" to a new "Record Company" called Sonus records. And in march of 97 A contract was made with them, at this time, Bonnie & Mephistopheles had performed Live a few times with the band . So suggestions came about letting them be a "Part of the Album" This was a good alternative at the time, because everything would look smoother and more "Natural" and this was of course a demand from Sonus, "The Promotion" of the album was then easier ! First The band appeared with 2 Tracks on the Compilation CD that sonus used for "Promotion". Then We had to pay for the printing and manufaction of the CD. So, said and done ! We all chipped in to save up for the money to the Album, When we paid the half in advance, the record came in production At this time the entire booklet had been changed from it´s original concept ! Mephistopheles & Bonnie were given credit for playing on the album ! And Weeks of technical problems with the Albums production was to be solved, but finally in may/June of 97 The album "Hang by the cross" was released and The band was promised a great back-up from the Record-Company. But nothing happened Ritchie paid sonus from his own pocket in late 97 (This was Later denied by Sonus !) They actually split the Band ! Ritchie was the contact person in the band, so nobody knew what was going on ! Sonus promised tours in portugal and spain, Big sales in Hong-Kong and Russia, And there were so many plans.... After 6-7 months of waiting Ritchie suggested that the band should leave the record company ! This was fallen to deaf ears ! Bilé & Mephistopheles had plans for themselves And in the end of august an actual "TakeOver" was tried by them ! Sonus wanted to get rid of Ritchie, because He was a "Problem" and not easy enough to trick ! So this led to a situation that all the "Hired Guns" left the band for a new deal with sonus !!! But this was not the end !!! This was the beginning of greater things to come ! Ritchie´s Girlfriend (Lilith Argerich) supported Ritchie into starting all over ! CULT DISCIPLES WILL NEVER DIE !!!
