From BookletBy all rights, hordes of heavy metal fans should have purchased Redstorm's debut album in 1989. Why? Heavy Load and Y. Malmsteen were leading Swedish heavy metal bands in the '80s, and Redstorm's sound was heavily influenced by their successful role models without neglecting their originality. "Victim of Crime" and "Let Me Go," for example, are fine examples of catchy tunes a la Heady Load and outstanding guitar work in the style of Malmsteen. But by 1989, the time for excellent heavy metal had passed, for the time being. Grunge and death metal were becoming increasingly popular and taking center stage. Unfortunately for Steve Redstorm, the multi-instrumentalist and founder of Redstorm, who only had another musician (Jens Jokineen) play the drums, thus doing almost everything himself. Due to the lack of support from a record company, which at that time was only looking for anything that could grunt and looked as bad as possible, he was also left to his own devices when it came to distribution. Sales therefore remained minimal and, of course, couldn't recoup the production costs. Without promotion and cross-border distribution, it's almost impossible to make a major career in a sparsely populated country like Sweden. Steve Redstorm, however, was undeterred. A second album was recorded and is still awaiting release, which now finally seems not too far off. But for now, enjoy his debut album, a forgotten and, as an LP, very expensive and sought-after gem of Swedish heavy metal! (Stefan Riermaier, 2003)
