Record Info’Rockslaget’ was the biggest local music competition in Gothenburg, Sweden. It was supposed to have been a small musical contest but more than 120 bands were entering every year. The event was founded by Peter Ohlsson on ABF where he wanted to give the local acts a chance to play live on a professional stage, with professional sound and light in front of a large audience. 6 of the approx 120 bands were sorted out and those went on the grand final at the Lisebergshallen. After a few years the event changed name to ‘Goteborgstalangen’ as the event had grown and the contest were so much more than just rock. Many Gothenburg metal acts have started their careers at this competition like Hammerfall, Dark Tranquility, Road Ratt, Freak Kitchen, Million etc. At 4 occasions the 6 bands that got to the final also got a chance to record two of their tracks for a local compilation album bearing the same name as the event. This happened at the 1990, 1991, 1993 and 1994 finals. This is one of those rare compilation albums that only were sold locally.
On the 1991 album you’ll find the hard rock acts Happy Baboons (well played AOR), Roll On (hardrock with female vocals), Globe (commercial AOR pop), Concrete Stuff (sleaze), Snakeskin Cowboys (hardrock) and the last group Duo Denim are performed in Swedish and feels more rock than hardrock. However since most of these band are hardrock acts and it includes some musicians that later would find in other constellations it feels like a must. All tracks are exclusive for this album as none of the bands released any later albums under these names. Snakeskin Cowboys however released a private pressed 7-track cassette in 1992 that features one of the tracks below. Snakeskin Cowboys were a band that did a lot of live gigs doing covers. This band features Fredrik Nordstrom (alias Ritchie Rainbow) from Dream Evil. Fredrik also works in Studio Fredman and he has played keyboard on albums with bands like Hammerfall, In Flames, Dark Tranquillity, Arch Enemy, Exhumation, Ceremonial Oath, Nightrage, Opeth, Spiritual Beggars to name a few. The Gothenburg act Concrete Stuff was founded in 1990 but it was when they changed name to B-Thong in 1993 that things started to roll. Concrete Stuff/B-thong vocalist Tony Jelencovich would leave in 1995 to form Transport League. He was then replaced by Ralf Gyllenhammer who later would find fame in Mustasch. Rare album with printed innersleeve
