Illusory Dawn participated in Partillerocken 1993, reaching the finals and earning a spot on the compilation CD 'Greatest Hits of Partillerocken 93' with their song "Tracing Eternal Grace". (In the compilation booklet, Thomas's last name is written as "Johansson" instead of "Jansson", and John's first name appears as "Johan". These are printing errors which have been confirmed by Thomas himself)"

Shortly after, the band transitioned into a Dream Theater cover band under the name Scream Theater.

However, feeling they were on the wrong path, Johan and the drummer left the band. This led John, along with Petter Pettersson and keyboardist Thomas Jansson, to shift their musical direction toward a style inspired by Rush. Initially, they used a drum machine, but later Jörgen Hanson joined as their drummer, and Joacim Cans (Hammerfall) became their new vocalist. Renaming themselves Altair, they moved away from heavy metal, exploring a completely different sound.

Due to personal conflicts, Joakim and Thomas eventually left the band, leaving John, Petter, and Jörgen to search for a new singer and keyboardist.  With a great deal of luck John met Carl-Johan Kilborn on the local train. He played piano and after joining the band he bought a keyboard. When they invited their former singer Johan back, the lineup was complete, and they began performing Genesis covers. In early '96 they recorded some own songs under the name Twin Age which became their first CD release 'Month Of The Year'.

Note: Johan Hansson have also been in Kungsbacka band Wildness together with Henrik Steenroos & Richard Mentzer (which later became Manimal).
