’Rockslaget’ was the biggest local music competition in Gothenburg, Sweden. It was supposed to have been a small musical contest but more than 120 bands were entering every year. The event was founded by Peter Ohlsson on ABF where he wanted to give the local acts a chance to play live on a professional stage, with professional sound and light in front of a large audience. 6 of the approx 120 bands were sorted out and those went on the grand final at the Lisebergshallen. After a few years the event changed name to ‘Goteborgstalangen’ as the event had grown and the contest were so much more than just rock. Many Gothenburg metal acts have started their careers at this competition like Hammerfall, Dark Tranquility, Road Ratt, Freak Kitchen, Million etc. At 4 occasions the 6 bands that got to the final also got a chance to record two of their tracks for a local compilation album bearing the same name as the event.



The Rockslaget 1992 finals was held at Lisebergs big scene. Winners was X-PLANE who got to record a CD-single and play a big contest in Montmatre, Köpenhamn where they ended on second place (Source).

Grattis! du håller i din hand en platta med rykande färsk finalist-musik från Rockslaget - den enda tävlingen som finns för Göteborgska okända, ökända, experimentella, rockande, hiphopande, popande amatörband. De var 120 stycken i år. Sex av dem gick till final och det är dem du hör så snart du låter nålen krafsa vaxet på detta konvoluts innehåll. Här finns också bandet som i förstapris fått en singelinspeling bekostad av Rockslagets arrangörer: ABG, G-P Aveny och Göteborgs stad. Troligen möter du flera av banden på Göteborgs rockscener framöver. Det är därför tävlingen kommit till. För att ge den lokala musiken en chans att nå utanför anonyma replokaler. Till en publik som vurmar lika mycket för musikens glädje, som Rockslagets deltagare själva gör. Till alla som ställt upp i de tolv deltävlingarna säger vi därför: Tack och lycka till! Till dig som håller skivan i din hand säger vi: Lyssna och njut! På hög volym, förstås.
