HELGE YOUTH RECREATION CENTER 1993Gefle IF's recreation center was started in the late 60s under the name "Gifflan" and moved to Andersberg in 1977. They then changed their name to Helges after the then director Helge Svensson.
In 1984, Lars Hall took over the place as director and is still there - with successful result. Today, in 1993, Helges is an institution, not just for Andersberg. Here there are many activities to choose from for everyone - but mainly for young people of course. Primary activities, such as table tennis, billiard, floorball and more are available, but also a full strength training room, where many people now go thanks to the cheap member prices. Buy a card for the whole year and much will be free or cheap!
We offer haircuts, photography (own darkroom available) and karate classes. We have started up so-called "girl groups" where you talk about everything and a little more. We're going on trips that the young people themselves earn by working in the café, on arrangements - for example two large techno raves we arranged ourselves. The trips have steered to Gotland, Norway, Denmark/Germany and, most recently, to Estonia, as well as ski trips to Åre. We also performed together with Tomas di Leva on TV's "7-9". Guitarist Steven B Andersson began his career at Helges.
This leads us into the farm's music activities. Here are two fully equipped rehearsal rooms and an 8-channel recording studio. We organize our own rock galas each semester. Sometimes for school, sometimes at the Friday disco. Several of the bands have played live around Gävle at all kinds of events - Musikfesten, Rådhusrock, Noisegate, Minirushet, Fritidsfestivalen, Kev Club and more.
THE CD RECORDINGIt was during the autumn of 1992 that Johan Jämtberg - music director at the center suggested that one should make a CD with all the centers 's rock bands, inspired by Claes Olson and Rickard Sandberg's previous record project "
Girls & Boys" from 1987. A couple of years later they released the cassette "More Girls than Boys" and the maxi single "Vår värld" where the Helges rockers made a joint song.
So now it was probably time again because the farm was completely invaded by young, new talented musicians. In the spring of '93, the groups began to select one suitable own song. No covers here either! Most of the bands first had time to make one trial recording of his CD song in the 8-channel studio before the seriousness began Monday, May 17. After that, there was intensive and uninterrupted work for two
weeks' time in the Edin studio, located in Forsby. Nineteen bands came and went without problem. Everything flowed extremely painlessly and everyone behaved wonderfully professionally. No fuss, no unchanged times, no one who didn't show up on time.
Johan Jämtberg, Johan Eckerblad and sound technician Mikael Gunnerås helped rock bands to carry out this project which ultimately resulted in the product you now hold in your hands.
Hope you have a pleasant listen and that the many styles of music will broaden your tastes - and that you will watch when these future rock stars play LIVE!
