Scudiero was formed in the summer of 1994 by Michael Dahlqvist and Jori Helminen. The band recorded several promotional demos, including 'Unknown Utopia (1996)', 'Time Will Tell (1997)', and 'Silhouettes (1997)', before releasing their debut album, 'Walking Through Mirrors', in March 1999 through the UK label Z Records. In early 2000, they began work on their follow-up album, titled 'Position Terror Frima'. Pre-production demos and material were recorded. After numerous delays, the album was expected to be completed sometime in 2004 or 2005. Unfortunately, this never came to fruition, and the album remains unreleased to this day.
In 2000, the band changed the name to Magica. However, due to pressure from both fans and the record label, the name was soon abandoned and the band returned to using Scudiero again.
Scudiero disbanded sometime after 2005, most likely due to vocalist Johan Persson/Fahlberg joined Jaded Heart. Info from Janne Stark's Encyclopedia The bands first demo CD-R 'Unknown Utopia (1996)' featured only Jori, Michael and guitarist Magnus Mörth with Jori handling the vocals, too. The second entitled 'Time Will Tell (1997)' saw the above line-up but with Daniel Palmquist (later in The Murder Of My Sweet) on guitars. Late 1999 Hans Andersson decided to quit and the vocal duties were taken over by ex-Mind's Eye singer Johan Persson. Hans was later found in Fatal Smile, the AOR-project Token, where Mikael Rosengren is also found, and is now fronting MindSplit. In 2001 Patrik Johansson (Yngwie Malmsteen, Stormwind) replaced drummer Michael Dahlquist. A second 13 tracks album was recorded and ready and is just waiting for a deal... and it's killer! It was however never released. Rosengren is now in Constancia and Skarr. Folkare is also in death metal band Unleashed and in melodic metal band Hellinor.
Official Biography (from old Website) In the summer of 1994, Michael Dahlqvist [drums] and Jori Helminen [bass] laid the foundation to what later became Scudiero. In the years to come a lot of time was to be spent in the rehersal studio, pumping out material on demos. After a couple of changes in the line-up, the current setting emerged. Joined, in 1996, by the forces of Michael Rosengren [keyboards] and Hasse Anderson [vocals], effort went into recording the five track CD: Time Will Tell. All guitars on the CD was played by Daniel Palmqvist, who is no longer with the band.
The second CD, 'Silhouettes' - recorded in the summer of 1997, captured the band and the musical direction they intend to pursue - strong vocal melodies backed by heavy instrumental arrangements. All guitars on 'Silhouettes' was played by Jori. Both CD:s got good reviews, and finally caught the ear of Mark Alger of Z Records. During the fall of 1997, Scudiero signed a three record world wide deal with Z Records (UK).
At the end of 1997, Fredrik Folkare, previously with the band Unleashed, joined in. With every position secured in the band, and stronger than ever thanks to Fredriks outstanding craftmanship, they entered the studio to record their latest CD: 'Walking Through Mirrors' In March 1999 Z Records released the first album "Walking Through Mirrors". In conjunction with the release the band went to England for a gig that was their first venture abroad. The Japanese release, licensed to Marquee/Avalon, followed in August the same year.
At the end of 1999 H.B. Andersson left Sweden for a longer stay down on Teneriffe (working as an entertainer). This caused the band to go looking for a replacement. Enter Johan Persson. Possibly the greatest prog voice in Sweden for the moment, he has taken Scudiero the last mile towards international top quality. Material is being written during early 2000 for the next album, 'Position Terra Firma'. This will propably be one of the strongest releases in the genre!
Lookout for incoming Scuds!
